This weekend saw the 61st Ten Tors event take place on Dartmoor and Teignmouth Community School was represented by a 35 mile team and a 45 mile team. Both teams have been training since October and have given up multiple weekends to prepare themselves for this huge physical and mental challenge. An early start on Saturday saw a familiar scene with the moors shrouded in thick fog. However, once the artillery gun was fired and the teams set off the mist began to clear and good walking conditions were had for the rest of the day. Both teams made fantastic progress initially until a kit malfunction and injuries took their toll. By the time the two teams had to make their compulsory camping stop they were still bang on schedule and no doubt looking for a well-deserved few hours sleep. The Sunday again saw good walking conditions and both teams made good progress as they looked to complete the challenge. With hundreds of excited spectators waiting on the finish line the 35 mile team finished their route just after 3pm with the 45 mile team coming in not long after 4pm. Both teams were exhausted and elated and certainly deserved the applause, their medals and the pasty waiting for them at the finish line. A massive well done to Fynn Jady, Jacob Lehmann, Alice Stoneman, Emily Sweeney and Jake Gallimore on the 35 mile team and Ethan Wright, Bailey Vanden, Dylan Diggins, Tyler Wilkinson, Vinnie Allan and Oli Evans on the 45 mile team. Ruby Britton also completed the 45 mile challenge with her Explorer Scout unit and Haydn Ward from Teign School also deserves a thank you for stepping in last minute to enable our 35 mile team to participate. Well done to all of you!
Finally, a big thank you to the staff team at TCS of Richard Johns, Jasmine Ousley and especially Adam Horne as this will be his last Ten Tors for TCS after 13 years of being involved.
