It was Science Week this week! We had several exciting events going on to celebrate it.
On Monday, we had two teachers from Teignmouth Community School – Exeter Road come and set us some STEM challenges. Reception had to investigate how changing the weight in the bottom of skittles affected how easy it was to knock them over.
Years 1 and 2 had to design a boat to carry cargo across the River Teign. Years 3 and 4 had to design strong bridges to replace Shaldon Bridge and years 5 and 6 had to design a new, taller, lighthouse to warn ships of the shore.
We have had fun working on these challenges!
On Tuesday, Energy Edd from Fun Science Exeter visited. He ran workshops on Rockets for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 and on Light for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. There were lots of practical activities to do.
Finally, we invited the children to enter a ‘decorate the potato’ competition. The potatoes had to be decorated to link to a scientist or the theme of connections.
We had some amazingly creative entries.
We really enjoyed the week and learned lots too.
