D-DAY COMMEMORATION

June 17, 2024Teignmouth Primary

Year 5 and 6 made ceramic poppies to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day. They then took their poppies to Teignmouth Cemetery and laid them on the Commonwealth War Graves as an act of remembrance of those Teignmouth service personnel who lost their lives during both World Wars. This was particularly poignant for two of our children who placed their poppies on their great grandfather’s graves. Other poppies were placed on the graves of civilians who lost their lives during bombing raids on Teignmouth. In particular, Joyce Medland – a 16 year old killed in the first air-raid, and the Hook/Field family of five killed in a direct hit on their house in Second Avenue. Both of which the children have been learning about in their history lessons.
