Ivy Education Trust schools participate in Plymouth 10k and Half Marathon

May 17, 2023A Smith

Two schools within our Trust, along with our Director of Education, Paul Cornish, proudly participated in the Plymouth 10k and Half Marathon on Sunday, May 14th. This amazing challenge was undertaken in support of two worthy charities: Jay’s Aim by Dawlish College and Devon Mind by Newton Abbot College.

Jay’s Aim, an organization dedicated to preventing untimely deaths resulting from undiagnosed heart conditions in South-West England, has made significant strides in their mission. Their efforts have resulted in training 13,010 young individuals in the crucial skills of CPR and AED usage. Additionally, they have provided 151 defibrillators and facilitated 160 cardiac screening appointments, making a profound impact on the community.

Devon Mind, a nonprofit who provide advice, information and support to empower anyone in Devon who may be experiencing a mental health problem, was also chosen as a beneficiary by Newton Abbot College. The staff and students of Newton Abbot College demonstrated their commitment to this cause by actively engaging in diverse fundraising activities, all in pursuit of their ambitious £10,000 fundraising target.

During the weekend, a passionate team of thirteen staff members from Newton Abbot College participated in the Plymouth half-marathon, the group consisting of seasoned campaigners, determined walkers, and individuals stepping out of their comfort zones for the first time.

Dawlish College has already raised an admirable £600 for Jay’s Aim from their challenge, while Newton Abbot College surpassed their goal of £3,000. The collective dedication and hard work displayed by both schools within Ivy Education Trust are commendable, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to philanthropy and community engagement.
